Care for Puppies & Kittens
Bringing home a new puppy or kitten is exciting! This cute, cuddly new family member will make everyone smile.
Despite its amusement, your new pet's first year requires serious attention to its health.
Your vet will create a personalized health care plan for your pet's first year, and will guide and support you along the way!
Your Pet’s First Appointment
Puppies should see their first vet around the age of six weeks, and kittens around the age of eight weeks.
Your pet will have a complete physical examination during this first visit to assess their overall health, look for signs of congenital defects, and check for external parasites.
We will also administer roundworm and hookworm deworming medications, as well as the first round of puppy or kitten vaccinations.

Finally, we will perform a blood test on kittens to determine if they have feline leukemia or feline immunodeficiency virus.
Follow-up Appointments
Between 6 and 16 weeks, puppies and kittens should have 3-4 veterinary visits. These visits allow our veterinarians to check your pet's health and administer vaccines.
